Our first U18s league match of the season saw Essex taking on BB&O and Hertfordshire in a triangular match at Brentwood Golf Club. Although the sun was shining there was a cool breeze in the air, and with a lack of rain in the preceding weeks the course was running and the greens firm underfoot.
With many of last year's stalwarts missing through age and other commitments, Essex fielded a relatively inexperienced side who put up a terrific show to beat BB&O 5 to 3 but losing out to a very strong Herts side 5.5 to 2.5.
Credit to last minute replacement Aaron Birch (Bentley) winning 1.5 points with a half against plus 4 golfer Finlay Rennie. Other notables were Toby Peters (Thorpe Hall) and Henry Linley (Romford) both with maximum points.
