A bright late August morning greeted Essex and Hertfordshire at Chelmsford GC for what was set to be a close encounter with the winners assured of becoming SE Group North Division League champions. The foursomes were led off by Andy May and team captain Ben Humphrey who were always ahead and secured a comfortable point for the home team, in match 2 Shaun Mills and Bailee Curran were always behind but made a brave effort before losing on the 18th green. Matches 3 & 4 also went our way to give us a 3-1 lunch time lead.

This meant we went into the afternoon singles needing 3 points to clinch the league and 3.5 to win the match. Once again Andy led us off and after a fast start winning the first 4 holes he cruised to a big win. Shaun was determined to make up for the morning defeat and a tight match turned his way early in the back 9. We now needed 1 more point from the remaining 6 matches. Captain Ben was always ahead and secured a 3&2 win, before Jay Beisser closed out his game on the 14th to mean we had won on the day and clinched the league title once again. A win for Olly Allison and a half for Bailee meant the final score was 8.5-3.5 in our favour.

We now look forward to the League final against the South Division winners Surrey which will be played at Sprowston Manor in Norfolk at the start of October. Congratulations to the team and thank you to Chelmsford GC for their hospitality.
