On a cold spring morning we arrived at Saffron Walden GC to play the 20th edition of the David Hall trophy with our friends from Cambridgeshire. We were hosted superbly throughout the day and we thank all for the welcome and the running of the event.

The foursomes teed off at 8.30am and after a tight front nine we started to move ahead on the back nine and and excellent victory for the Tobin brothers in the top match led us to a strong 4.5-0.5 lunch time lead.

The afternoon singles proved to be a much close fought affair. Big wins from Andy May & Chrlie Rushbridge put us with a couple of points of victory. 4 matches went to the final green and we managed to come out on top of 4 of them meaning the afternoon score was 6-4 in our favour and made the match score 10.5-4.5 to Essex.

An excellent start to our season against a strong Cambridgeshire team, the match being played in fantastic spirit on a course that was in great condition for so early in the year given the horrible wet weather we have experienced in Jan / Feb.

We wish Cambridgeshire all the best for the season ahead and look forward to our next pre season friendly against Kent later this month.
