On a cold spring morning Team Essex arrived at Saffron Walden GC to play the 20th edition of the David Hall Trophy with our friends from Cambridgeshire.
We were hosted superbly throughout the day and we thank all for the warm welcome and the running of the event.
The morning foursomes matches teed off at 8.30am and after a tight front nine Essex started to move ahead on the back nine.
An excellent victory for the Tobin brothers in the top match built the momentum, leading us to a strong 4.5 - 0.5 lunch time lead.
The afternoon singles proved to be a much closer affair.
Big wins from Andy May & Charlie Rushbridge put Essex within a couple of points of victory.
Four matches went to the final green and we managed to come out on top in 3, meaning the afternoon score finished 6 - 4 in our favour, giving an overall match score of 10.5 - 4.5 to Essex.
An excellent start to our season against a strong Cambridgeshire team, the match was played in fantastic spirit on a course that was in great condition for so early in the year, especially given the horrible wet weather we have experienced in Jan / Feb.
We wish Cambridgeshire all the best for the season ahead and look forward to our next pre season friendly against Kent later this month.
