Colts v Bedfordshire: The third of the four 2022 league matches played at Frinton Golf Club on a very hot day.
Team: Shay McQueen (Capt) & Jake Hinton (Brentwood), Ben Humphrey & Michael Gilbert (Chelmsford), Billy Gunyon (Thorp Hall), Olliver Allison & Cai James (Colchester) and Hamish Stubbs (Frinton).
Newcomers to the 2022 Colts squad Cai and Hamish.
Morning foursomes started well with Shay and Ben winning their match 4&3. Unfortunately games 2 and 4 then went to Beds 5&4 and 7&6 respectively. Billy and Jake were holding their own with only two holes to go but then lost on the 17th 2&1. Foursomes result 3&1 to Beds which could so easily have been 2/2. The old adage - all to play for in the afternoon.
Afternoon singles were tightly contested. Three games going to the 18th and two to the 17th. Ben (on loan from the County squad) had a good 3&2 win which made him the team's top scorer, and Cai a good 3&1 win. Olly and Michael (playing in the same four ball) were both all square going up the 18th. Olly won 1up but unfortunately Michael's second to the green hit the path, had a nasty bounce into OOB - 1down. Hamish, 1up, had an excellent drive on the 18th, well over the ditch, but lost the hole to finish all square. Singles 4 1/2 - 3 1/2 to Beds.
A match, that again so easily, could have been a draw finished 7 1/2 / 4 1/2 win for Beds. Played in an excellent spirit, many of the players knew each other.
Congrats to Beds
