Our final league fixture of the season took place at Chelmsford GC on a very warm late summer Sunday. The morning foursomes matches were not going our way at the turn and we were down in 3 of the 4 games. However a strong team performance on the back nine meant we came out with a lunchtime lead of 2.5-1.5, all four matches were tight with three going down the 18th and one finishing on the 17th green. We set out for the singles with the temperature rising even further which meant it was going to be a physical and mental battle for the afternoon. Bedfordshire certainly raised their games and seemed to put their strength out at the top of the order as they needed to do. They took the top two matches and halved match 3 so we were now behind on the scoresheet but our overall team strength showed through and we took the last 5 matches with some really good wins.
This result has clinched the league title for us this year and we now look forward to the league final on 6th October against Hampshire at Northwood GC in Middlesex
Congratulations to all of the squad who have played this year and hopefully we can win the final and bring another trophy back to Essex
